Books for your kids! Curated, Wrapped, Delivered!
Bookroo’s mission is to help children fall in love with reading by helping parents to build a home library of children’s books in an exciting, affordable way. Each month, subscribers receive a box of individually gift-wrapped children’s books to keep. Bookroo is about creating an experience around reading that helps parents spend meaningful time each day helping their children learn.
What You Get: Every Bookroo Box comes packed with 2-3 books beautifully wrapped and curated by our Bookroo Review Process which includes the input of young families attending Stanford University and an insert highlighting the books.
Sorry, only registered users are able to leave reviews! Please register to A Year of Boxes to leave reviews on your favorite boxes!
What is Bookroo?
Bookroo is a monthly subscription for your kids that helps them fall in love with reading by combining the excitement of opening a gift with the discovery of a new, treasured book.
How many books come in a Bookroo Box?
Boxes with picture books come with 2 hardcover books. Boxes with board books come with 3 books. Boxes with chapter books come with 2 chapter books.
When will my subscription renew?
Subscriptions renew on the 15th of months to which you are subscribed. If you sign up before the 5th of the month, your subscription will renew on the upcoming 15th. If you sign up on or following the 5th of the month, your subscription will renew on the 15th of the following month.
When will my Bookroo Box arrive?
We ship most boxes the first business day following the 15th of every month via USPS Media Mail, and boxes reach their destination typically within 6-9 business days. You will receive an email with a tracking number when your box is shipped. If you sign up for your first Bookroo box between the 15th of one month and the 4th of the following month (for example, between February 15th and March 4th), your box will be shipped by the following weekend.
How do you decide which books to send?
For our board and picture book boxes, our goal is to send hidden gems rather than classics. Our books are extensively reviewed by a panel of 12 families attending Stanford University and their combined 22 kids. They rate each book on a 7 point scale and on its re-readability. Books that emerge as clear winners are sent out in our Bookroo boxes. For more details on the review process, check out Bookroo Review Process. To see past boxes visit our What’s in a Box page.
For our chapter book box, we send one hidden gem and one admired favorite per box. Books are chosen by our in-house early reader expert in consultation with librarians, parents, and kids alike to help your child build their library, discover new books, and fall in love with reading. Plus, each box includes information and talking points to help you know what your child will be reading. You can relax, knowing we’ve carefully selected kid-friendly books! To see past boxes visit our What’s in a Box page.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Please send an email to [email protected] and we’ll get you all sorted out! If you give us feedback on what would make Bookroo a better fit for your family, we’d be extremely grateful! You must request cancellation of your account by 11:59pm PST on the 15th of the month in order to not receive that month’s box. If you have more questions about canceling, please visit our Help Center.
What if I get a book I already have?
No problem! Send us a picture of your giving the book to someone else and we’ll give you $5 off your next subscription. Our experience has been that even community members with extensive libraries have discovered new books through Bookroo!
What age range is Bookroo appropriate for?
We send board books, picture books and early chapter books. Board books are more durable and safer for younger children (approximately ages 0-2.5). Picture books, in all honesty, are basically loved by all ages, but we gear our box towards children 3 to 6 years old. Our chapter book box is best for children ages 7-10, though it also brings joy to readers of all ages.
How do I continue getting Bookroo boxes after my gift subscription ends?
Login to your account, and then go through the normal checkout process. The new subscription will be added to your old account.
What if I have children in both the board book and picture book age groups?
If you haven’t signed up yet, as you checkout, simply choose our alternating subscription when you arrive at the “Choose Book Type” step, and we’ll alternate between sending you board and picture books every other month. (You can also choose which box you get first!) If you want books for both age groups every month, we offer a 15% discount off the second subscription shipping to the same address for as long as both subscriptions are active. Shoot us an email to [email protected] letting us know you’d like to take advantage of this opportunity.
If you’re already subscribed and would like to update your subscription to alternate, just let us know and we’d be happy to alternate which box we send you, so that you can acquire books for both age groups!
Do you offer international shipping?
We offer shipping to anywhere within the United States and Canada. Shipping to Canada is an extra $11 per box.
Is your wrapping paper recyclable?
Yes! We use two different types of wrapping paper–both are eco-friendly and recyclable!
