Book of the Month it is a monthly book subscription box. Every month they release 5 new books which have been selected by their panel of Judges. Books are announced on the first of the month, and members have six days to decide which book they would like to receive. Monthly subscriptions include one book, but members can purchase up to two additional books each month for $9.99 per title. They kindly sent us this box for review.

Summer is the perfect time for a Book subscription. I feel like everyone slows down in the Summer. Well at least when it comes to work. everyone is focused on vacations, beach time, time spent on the porch…..all those fun Summertime activities that also happen to be the perfect opportunity to read a good book. I like to have lots of book options on hand during the Summer months, therefore I was more excited than usual for my Book of the Month box to arrive.

Here’s a look at my book choice for August:

The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne

Cyril Avery is not a real Avery — or at least, that’s what his adoptive parents tell him. And he never will be. But if he isn’t a real Avery, then who is he?

Born out of wedlock to a teenage girl cast out from her rural Irish community and adopted by a well-to-do if eccentric Dublin couple via the intervention of a hunchbacked Redemptorist nun, Cyril is adrift in the world, anchored only tenuously by his heartfelt friendship with the infinitely more glamourous and dangerous Julian Woodbead. At the mercy of fortune and coincidence, he will spend a lifetime coming to know himself and where he came from and over his many years will struggle to discover an identity, a home, a country, and much more.

In this, Boyne’s most transcendent work to date, we are shown the story of Ireland from the 1940s to today through the eyes of one ordinary man. The Heart’s Invisible Furies is a novel to make you laugh and cry while reminding us all of the redemptive power of the human spirit.

Book of the Month Review August 2017 – Final Thoughts

At first glance this didn’t appear to be the type of book I would typically reach for. I usually gravitate towards the Young Adult or Thriller genre. But, with that being said, I also kind of feel like I need to read this month’s selection. I did a little research and The Heart’s Invisible Furies receives RAVE reviews on Goodreads. Some reviewers say that it is the best book of 2017…..now I am intrigued. It’s also from the New York Times bestselling author of The Boy In the Striped Pajamas which was a huge hit.

Stay tuned for our next Book of the Month review as we will be showing you all 5 August book selections……there’s some good ones!

XOXO
