Book of the Month Review May 2019
Book of the Month is a monthly book subscription box. Every month they release 5 new books which they have narrowed down from hundreds of new releases (so you don’t have to). Books are announced on the first of the month, and members have six days to decide which book they would like to receive. Monthly subscriptions include one book, but members can purchase up to two additional books each month for $9.99 per title. They kindly sent us this box for review.
Full disclosure – I didn’t end up reading any of the books from last month’s Book of the Month selection. I think it’s the first time in almost a year that I didn’t dive in to one of the books. I usually end up reading one, if not two……sometimes three.
So……I was that much more excited when my May books arrived. I was in need of a good book. A book that I was excited to read even before opening it. And…..I’m happy to report that I was SO excited to crack open my May Book of the Month selection.
How Book of the Month works:
1. New selections are announced on the 1st of the month: The BOTM team selects 5 new books each month, one of which is included in your membership.
2. Choose your Book of the Month by the 6th: Visit the site to select your Book of the Month, or leave it up to them and they will choose one for you.
3. Read, react and discuss with other members: All books ship on the same day. Return to the site to share and discuss with other members.

Necessary People by Anna Pitoniak
Stella and Violet are best friends, and from the moment they met in college, they knew their roles. Beautiful, privileged, and reckless Stella lives in the spotlight. Hardworking, laser-focused Violet stays behind the scenes, always ready to clean up the mess that Stella inevitably leaves in her wake.
After graduation, Violet moves to New York and lands a job in cable news, where she works her way up from intern to assistant to producer, and to a life where she’s finally free from Stella’s shadow. In this fast-paced world, Violet thrives, and her ambitions grow—but everything is jeopardized when Stella, envious of Violet’s new life, uses her connections, beauty, and charisma to get hired at the same network. Stella soon moves in front of the camera, becoming the public face of the stories that Violet has worked tirelessly to produce—and taking all the credit.
Stella might be the one with the rich family and the right friends, but Violet isn’t giving up so easily. As she and Stella strive for success, each reveals just how far she’ll go to get what she wants–even if it means destroying the other person along the way.
Book of the Month Review May 2019 – Final Thoughts
Yes! This is exactly the kind of book I needed in my life right about now. My May Book of the Month selection arrived at the perfect time. We just got back from a mini road trip and I needed a book to take with me. No road trip is complete without a good book. I only got through the first few chapters as we were quite busy, but I am already loving this book. I like that it starts off with the main characters meeting in college, it adds just a little bit of a YA book vibe to it. I also love the fact that the main characters are so different but so intertwined. I can’t wait to see how it ends. This line in particular is making me want to sit down and finish the book asap – “As Violet and Stella strive for success, each reveals just how far she’ll go to get what she wants–even if it means destroying the other person along the way.” I already know I am going to love this book. I’ll most likely finish it this week. Then I will have to figure out which BOTM selection to read next…..
