GlobeIn Artisan Box Review February 2018

GlobeIn Artisan Box is a monthly subscription box featuring favorite products from global artisans. Each box is curated around a monthly theme selected by the editor with the aim of helping you experience new and interesting products and cultures. They kindly sent us this box for review.

GlobeIn is one of the most consistent boxes we review, and definitely a favourite amongst the team. They always provide us with the most beautiful handmade items; items you won’t find in any other box or at any of the local stores you frequent. Handmade items are probably my favorite kind of items to receive. I appreciate the fact that they are unique, original and made with love.

Here’s a closer look at the DIY box…….

February Theme: DIY

Dear Knitters, Scrapbookers, Jewelry Makers, and Creatives of all kinds,

Are you feeling crafty? Curious? Creative? The DIY Artisan Box will inspire you to roll up your sleeves and do-it-yourself! Pick a project, any project, and get started! You’ll stretch your innovation muscles and perhaps discover a fun new hobby.

Most of the items in this box were handmade by incredible female artisans using traditional skills passed down from their parents or grandparents. Your enjoyment of this box and the unique items it contains helps preserve these crafts and the rich cultures they come from. Enjoy!

Yarn Ball – India

All great things start from simple beginnings. Knit this multicolour yarn into whatever shape your heart desires. Upon first glance, you would never guess that this yarn had a former life as a colourful Indian sari. Instead of heading to a landfill, it has been up cycled, diverted from waste stream, and is now ready for you to give it a new purpose.

The fact that this gorgeous yarn use to be a sari and has been up-cycyled into a ball of yarn has me feeling all the feels. What a great idea.

Yarn Bowl – Tunisia

Your new yarn ball will feel right at home in this complementary ceramic bowl, cleverly designed with four holes to fit a variety of yarn thickness, big or small. Crafted with care by the talented artisans of Le Souk Ceramique, this sturdy bowl is finished with a glossy, deep blue glaze that will accent any color or pattern of yarn that it cradles.

It’s been a long time since I sat down with a ball of yarn and my knitting needles but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the usefulness of this gorgeous dish. Nothing is more frustrating than a runaway yarn ball. This handy little dish will keep your yarn where it’s supposed to be.

Scrapbook Paper – India

Colourful scrapbook paper that is entirely tree-free and sustainable. Sounds almost too good to be true, but here it is in your Artisan Box! These sheets of paper are handmade by artisans in Rajasthan in Northern India and are 100% cotton. No trees were harmed in the making of this paper!

Not only is this scrapbook paper gorgeous, but it’s holiday themed and very appropriate for February – the month of love. Tree-free paper is a new concept for me but it’s one I fully appreciate. I’m determined to find a project for these gorgeous little pieces of paper.

Tassel Set – India

These tassels in a vivid array of colors were neatly tied together by hand and add perfectly fun-sized flair to wherever you decide to hang them. Tie onto your keychain, string together on a garland, or embellish just about anything.

Tassels are my weakness, I love tassels!! This was such a fun item for them to include in the DIY box. I like that they can be used for a number of things. Let your imagination go wild. Tie them to your notebook, keychain, bag, make some earrings, etc…..

Palm Leaf Flat Basket – Mexico

This versatile basket will be at home in your kitchen or bathroom, on your bookshelf, or in your craft corner.

And here we have our Palm Leaf basket. We receive one of these almost every month, but the style of this month’s basket is slightly different. It’s bigger than the baskets we usually receive. I love these baskets and use them all over the house. Mostly for storage but I also like to use them for gifting.

GlobeIn Artisan Box Review February 2018 – Final Thoughts

So, here are my thoughts. This month’s GlobeIn Artisan Box is gorgeous, as per usual, and the theme is really fun. But, it’s a theme I don’t really relate to. The last time I used yarn was probably when I was 10 and my grandma was teaching me to knit. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the DIY theme but it’s definitely not my favorite. This month’s GlobeIn box won’t appeal to as many subscribers as most of the other themes have. But, I do appreciate that they mixed things up this month and I still love all the items we received. They will make an amazing gift for one of my DIY loving friends.

XOXO
