GlobeIn Artisan Box Review June 2019
When you review the same subscription box month after month it’s hard not to repeat yourself. I try to mix it up a bit but the need-to-know info like what kind of box it is and how much it costs rarely changes so I pretty much cut and paste that stuff from the previous month. I mean, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? That said, if you’re familiar with GlobeIn Artisan Box I’ll totally understand if you want to scroll through to the nitty gritty on this month’s contents. And if it’s new to you, well happy day! Thank you for checking out my post. GlobeIn Artisan Box is a monthly subscription box featuring handmade, ethically sourced products from makers around the world. Each Premium Box has a theme and for June it’s the Picnic Box.

There are two subscription options for the GlobeIn Artisan Box (all prices in USD):
Essential Box ($10 per month): Choose your own products and receive add-on credit to pick your own selection at members-only prices, or receive the surprise item of the month. Shipping in the US is $3/month; shipping to Canada $12/month (your first box ships free); and international shipping is $15/month.
Premium Box ($40 per month): Each Premium Box is approximately $70 in value and includes 4 to 5 handmade items by artists from around the world. Subscribers can also choose additional products to customize their box. Shipping in the US is $10/month; shipping to Canada $22/month (your first box ships free); and international shipping is $25/month.
Each box comes with a glossy, full-colour guide to contents. You learn a little bit about each product, including where it was made, how to use it, who made it, and what impact your purchase has on the lives of the makers.
Picnic Basket, Ghana ($40)
This picnic basket is crafted with vetiver grass, which is rolled by hand and dyed to give it a vibrant hue. This basket is conceived after seven days of labor and hard work. It evokes that old-timey picnic vibes. This basket will make your picnic packing an easy-breezy sort of affair — just fill it with delicious fruits and foods, and enjoy a memorable picnic day with a perfect meal outdoors.
We don’t have a picnic basket and I love this one — the colours, the texture, even the size (a bit on the small side, but still large enough for lunch or snacks for two). In the off season, it would be cute for keeping craft or knitting supplies at hand.
The rest of this month’s items were carefully packed inside the basket. I’ve had several GlobeIn boxes now and everything has arrived in perfect condition. Which is what you want whether you’re spending $5 or $50. And pretty impressive, considering they often contain fragile items like these
Two Tall Handblown Glasses, Mexico ($30)
Made with recycled glass materials, these glasses are pretty unique, with a delicate touch of color. You will always find the perfect accompaniment in each glass, whether you want to sip wine, cognac, champagne or simply some freshly squeezed orange juice.
As much as I love these glasses, I can’t see myself bringing them on a picnic for fear they’d break. Maybe for a picnic at home then. They’re dishwasher safe (yay!) but not safe for hot liquids.
Like all of the items in this month’s box these glasses were packed in paper and cardboard (which I like because you can recycle it, unlike bubblewrap).
Enamel Serving Tray, India ($18)
The enamel tray is handpainted and perfectly reflects the ideology that beauty is effortless. Cultivate a colorful platter for your picnic setting. This tray is stainless steel and designed for layering with your other picnic items.
This tray is a great size for veggies and dip, a cold salad, fruit and cheese — whatever’s on the menu. It’s food-safe, lead-free and handwash only. I can see us getting a lot of use out of it this summer.
Yes Peas Himalayan Salt Popped Pea Chips (1 oz)
Now these aren’t in the brochure, so they must be a bonus or last-minute addition.
Yes Peas are simply peas, popped to perfection. We take peas, add heat and pressure, then pop! It’ s a perfectly seasoned, better-for-you chip that tastes as good as fried. Plus, with 6 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber per serving, you’ll have the whole family saying “ yes peas!”
These are really, really good. If you don’t like peas you won’t be a fan, but if you like veggie snacks and veggie chips they may be your thing. I would definitely have them again (if they’re not ridiculously expensive) and will keep an eye out for them. At one ounce, this is a really tiny portion but enough to give you an idea if you like them or not.
That’s the entire bag! (I see they’re typically sold in 3-oz bags, rather than the 1 oz here.)
I think this month’s GlobeIn Artisan Box Picnic Box was really well done — perfect timing for summer and summers to come. The picnic basket and enamel tray are both lovely and multi-purpose and the popped pea chips were a tasty surprise. And if we weren’t overrun with glasses I’d keep those too but they’ll make a nice gift for a friend. (They’re yours if you want them, Barb!)
