GlobeIn Artisan Box Review March 2019

GlobeIn Artisan Box is a monthly subscription box featuring handmade, ethically sourced products from makers around the world. Each Premium Box has a theme. This month, it’s The Tasting Box. If that means accessories for the kitchen and entertaining, I am here for it!

There are two subscription options for the GlobeIn Artisan Box (all prices in USD):

Essential Box ($10 per month): Choose your own products and receive add-on credit to pick your own selection at members-only prices, or receive the surprise item of the month. Shipping in the US is $3/month; shipping to Canada $12/month (your first box ships free); and international shipping is $15/month.

Premium Box ($40 per month): Each Premium Box is approximately $70 in value and includes 4 to 5 handmade items by artists from around the world. Subscribers can also choose additional products to customize their box. Shipping in the US is $10/month; shipping to Canada $22/month (your first box ships free); and international shipping is $25/month.

Each box comes with a glossy, full-colour guide to contents. You learn a little bit about each product, including where it was made, how to use it, who made it, and what impact your purchase has on the lives of those who made it.

Handcrafted Flight Stand, India (price not listed)

Your new flight stand is crafted out of eucalyptus wood, by an artisan named Ashok. Ashok has practiced his artisanship for the past 20 years and is one of the oldest members of the woodworking artisan group supported by our partner, Sasha Imports. Not only is he the oldest of this artisan community still working, but he is also considered the best.

Sasha Imports hails from West Bengal, India, and their mission is to seek new avenues for international trade to uplift impoverished communities. They also focus on training and hiring women in the developing world. Through your purchase, you are helping artisans, like Ashok, win a respectful full-time salary.

You’ll see the glasses that go with it in a sec, but on its own it’s a really nice piece. How fun would it be to put out for friends? I’d love to have a couple more of them so each person could have their own. Add a few small bowls of nuts, popcorn and flavoured olives and you’ve got the makings of a fun evening at home.

Handwoven Bottle Coaster, Rwanda ($18)

I should have pulled out a bottle of wine to see how they look together, but you set your bottle inside the coaster to dress up your table top or bar cart. I love the summery colours!

Tasting Journal, India ($12)

Need to jot down your thoughts while sipping your decadent drinks? Your journal will help you note the distinct qualities for each flavour in your flight. This journal is both adorable and handy, just like our artisan partner, Seeti. For the past 13 years in North India, Seeti has worked in paper-making to support her daughter and son. To make your journal, she use generation-old techniques passed down from the master paper-makers who practiced before her.

To make the paper, 100 percent recycled cotton is broken down using a traditional wheel press and soaked overnight. The pulp is then strained, pressed into pages and hung to dry. The material is then iron pressed into crisp paper pages to be stitched into the journal. This unique texture of the journal is tactile and soft, a quintessential quality of Indian papers.

I’m not a big drinker myself so I wouldn’t use it, but the journal would be fun to pass around at a tasting party or gift with a mixed case of craft beer or a couple of bottles of wine.

Tasting Glass Set, Mexico ($45)

And here’s the glasses! I love the dimples in the sides that make them easy to hold and the teal colour on the rims. Such a beautiful set! You could use it to sample beer, wine, cocktails, mocktails or even smoothies over brunch. I’m going to fill them with veggies or dips one school night to make dinner a little festive. My kids will love it!

Bottle Opener Necklace, India ($26)

Now this is genius. The necklace would be a great conversation starter at a party and handy too!

The GlobeIn Artisan Box Tasting Box has a summery feel that makes me think of drinks and dinners outdoors and fun evenings with friends. I think it would make a lovely gift for people who like to entertain, and any one of the items would look fantastic on a bar cart. I’m looking forward to using it!
