The Haitian Flavour Kit

Haitian cuisine has strong Caribbean character, with a blend of African, French & Spanish influences.  Dishes consist of simple ingredients, yet have flavours that pack a zippy punch.  Seafood and marinated dishes, like pork griot (recipe on the blog) or jerk grilled shrimp abound and pair perfectly with a cold beer on a warm summer night.

Haiti’s infamous rice and bean dish is a black bean burger recipe, perfect for summer grilling.  Round out these dishes with a pinch of Scotch Bonnet Chili Salt to finish.  Warm spices, such as cinnamon, and star anise, are common Caribbean flavours.  We’ve paired the Cardamom Summer blend with blueberry ice cream, Haitian hot chocolate and banana pancakes (recipes on the blog!).

RawSpiceBar July 2017 – Final Thoughts

I feel so inspired every time I receive this box!  It really opens my eyes to new ideas, spice blends, recipes, and ways of cooking I wouldn’t otherwise have considered.  I’m loving the themes of summer, BBQ and Caribbean flare.  I also really liked the mention of paring with blueberry ice cream!  This box is on the right track here.  I did notice we were down a recipe card in this month’s subscription, but it seems the recipes will be more readily available on their blog.  Do check it out for the latest ideas!
