Here’s a closer look at January’s box theme and the items I received this month….

January’s Theme – Winter Wonderland

This month features delicious treats that’ll help you enjoy the cold weather and make you feel happy inside – think lots of sweets! Included in every box is a mini magazine that gives you in-depth details of each treat in the box, descriptions, upcoming news, and mini activities!

Strawberry Tiramisu Kit Kats

This month featured an entire bag of Strawberry Tiramisu Kit Kats, and trust me, you won’t be able to put these down. When you bite down into these, there’s the initial taste of sweet and tangy strawberry followed quickly by a strong and slightly dark tiramisu coffee taste. The sweet flavor from the strawberry balances out nicely with the deeper more complex and overpowering (in a good way) tiramisu. These might just be my favorite flavor of Kit Kats yet.

Parade Milkshake

The Parade Milkshake is an ultra rich and ultra creamy milkshake beverage. It’s super smooth and was definitely a midday pick-me-up kind of drink, but it was too sweet for me.

Koikeya Black Pepper Chips

Let me first start off by saying I hate anything with pepper in it, whether it be black peppers, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, or anything of the like. However, these Black Pepper Chips by Koikeya were surprisingly good. Upon cracking open the bag, I was hit with a very strong smell of intense black pepper. The chips were crispy (think crispier than Lays, but not quite kettle cooked) and were very peppery and savory. It might have been because these were made by Koikeya, Japanese chip experts, but these were very tasty.

Glico Balanced Nutrition Chocolate Brownie Bar

The Glico Balanced Nutrition Chocolate Brownie Bar is this month’s kinosei (“healthy benefit”) snack. It’s packed with vitamins and minerals to help you stay energized and balanced for the day. It’s hard to believe that this is a “healthy” snack because it tastes just like a brownie!

Gudetama Custard Chocolate Bar

This yummy treat is a custard covered wafer bar with a milk chocolate coated bottom. It’s sweet and creamy with a crispy wafer center. Plus, who could resist the adorable Gudetama packaging?!

Giant Chocolate Bar Puff

Wow – the Giant Chocolate Bar Puff was truly GIANT! It’s a rice puff bar that’s lightly coated in a thin layer of chocolate with peanuts mixed in. It had such a crispy center, but with an overall very light and airy texture. I didn’t expect to finish it all in one sitting, but it was THAT good.

Crunchy Panda Cookies Party Pack

These panda shaped cookies come with a bare biscuit back on one side and a milk and white chocolate coated front. Each biscuit comes with different panda expressions, which make them a fun and tasty treat to enjoy. There’s 6 packs in total which is ideal for sharing with friends and family!

Savory Wheat Crackers

This pack of wheat crackers came with two round pieces of toast/crackers. The flavor itself tasted a bit bland with not much to it except some salt. The texture of it was very crunchy, but I wished it had a more flavor to it.

Salty Seaweed Puffs

The Salty Seaweed Puffs are a rice puffed snack with tiny flakes of seaweed sprinkled on top. It’s a very simple snack that was slightly salty, savory and addicting! I couldn’t eat just one and had to finish the whole bag.

Cheese Umaibo

Umaibos are one of my favorite Japanese snacks to eat and I always look forward to the new flavor TokyoTreat selects each month. This month featured the Cheese Umaibo. It was essentially a big Cheeto puff stick but with a creamy and savory cheese flavor. It was very tasty!

Calbee Shrimp Sticks Share Pack

Calbee’s Shrimp Crackers are one of the most popular and well-known snacks of all time. I’ve been a fan of the savory shrimp flavor for years and I’m sure most seafood lovers will enjoy it. These, however, tasted a bit different from their bigger bag. The chips were about half or a third the usual size and the taste was a bit lacking and not as flavorful.

Lucky New Year Taiyaki Snack

This Taiyaki Snack by Meito is in my list of top 10 favorite Japanese snacks I’ve ever tasted. It comes in a fish shaped treat with a thin wafer shell all around. It’s filled with an aerated chocolate that’s light as air and melts in your mouth. It’s very similar to the ice cream cone snacks by Bing Bing and Caplico, but this is perfection.

Cute Cotton Candy

I’m usually a fan of authentic cotton candy, but this is my first time trying out one that’s bagged and processed. It had a very light and fluffy melt-in-your-mouth texture like most cotton candy, but the overall taste was too sweet for me.

Sticky Ramune Candy DIY Kit

This month’s DIY Kit is a Sticky Ramune Candy one that’s very easy to make. Mix the water and the candy powder to create the sticky cream like candy. Take a bit of the candy mixture with your spoon and dip into the separate ramune candy bits to create a fizzling concoction in your mouth.

TokyoTreat Review January 2019 – Final Thoughts

This month’s TokyoTreat was filled with many sweet snacks that’s a dream for anyone with a sweet tooth. There was also a nice mixture of savory snacks to balance out the box. This month introduced me to many unique and tasty items, but my favorites were the Taiyaki Snack and the Strawberry Tiramisu KitKats! The Strawberry Tiramisu KitKats were such a unique flavor that I feel so lucky to have gotten the chance to try. I know it’s not available anywhere near me, so I’m glad TokyoTreat makes everything more accessible. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for next month!
