Unplugged Book Box Review June 2019

Unplugged Book Box is a seasonally inspired monthly subscription box featuring one hardcover NEW RELEASE Young Adult or NEW RELEASE hardcover or paperback Adult Fiction book (published within 2 months of shipment) + 4 to 6 bookish self-care goodies that help you focus on you. They kindly sent us this box for review.

This will be my second time reviewing Unplugged Book Box. My first review was the April box, which I quite enjoyed, we missed May and now we are on to June. I LOVE a good book subscription box and this one arrived at the perfect time as it has been raining for 2 days. I get very excited when it is rainy outside because it gives me an excuse to cozy up in my chair and start a new book.

Here’s a closer look at the June Young Adult Unplugged Book Box….

The June 2019 Unplugged Book Box theme is Create Your Own Sunshine.

The back of the product card lists all the items in the box. The products tie in with different fandoms, TV shows, and books.

The product card also has unboxing challenges. If you want to play along and share your photos on Instagram you could possibly win a prize.

Unplugged Book Box always includes a Spotify playlist.

On the back of the playlist card there’s a recipe for Simon & Blue’s Oreo Smoothie.

The Greywaren Tea

Ronan from The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater was a Greywaren – a supernatural entity that could bring things to life from dreams. Ronan was a tough character that had to find his own sunshine through his dreams (& Adam). This yummy, caffeine-free tea was made exclusively for Unplugged Book Box by Riddles Tea Shop.

They had me at “caffeine-free”. I am SO glad to receive a tea that can be enjoyed anytime throughout the day. I either read first thing in the morning, or right before I go to bed, and if it is the latter I love to enjoy a hot cup of tea while I read. This one is a rooibos tea (my favorite) and it includes blueberry, raspberry and rosehip……just to name a few.

Love is Love is Love Shower Steamer

This shower steamer will help you feel some self-love as it clears sinuses and makes your shower more enjoyable. Love is Love! Love yourself first but remember to love with an open heart. Made by Bubble Princess.

If I had to choose between bath bombs and shower steamers I would definitely choose shower steamers. I shower everyday, but only enjoy a bath every so often. And there’s something really nice about a steamy shower filled with a lovely scent.

Enamel Pin

In honour of Sarah’s (co-owner of Unplugged) favorite season, we introduce our first collectible! Enamel pins have been highly requested, so here’s the 1st of 3 pins! This one is inspired by Sarah’s favorite Sailor Scouts from Sailor Moon – Neptune & Uranus.

I love the idea of a collectible item. It adds an additional element of fun to the box. And I really love enamel pins. Great on a denim jacket, your book bag or back pack.

Baz Grimm-Pitch Sugar Scrub

Baz Grimm-Pitch of Carry On by Rainbow Rowell was a misunderstood character from the first page. He didn’t let that bother him though. He created his own sunshine at Watford with Simon. The fresh scent reminds us of Baz’s sharp personality. Made by Typewriter Hearts.

A nice little product to go with my shower steamer. I use scrub on a regular basis so this will come in handy. The scent is pomegranate & sass, it has a bit of sweetness to it.

Shine Bright Pouch

Create your own sunshine with this gorgeous pouch by Novel Grounds! It was made exclusively for Unplugged.

Yes! Love this adorable little pouch. And really….can you ever have too many pouches? I think not. This one is the perfect size for my purse. It will fit hair ties, lip gloss, lotion and gum.

Like a Love Story by Abdi Nazemian

It’s 1989 in New York City, and for three teens, the world is changing.

Reza is an Iranian boy who has just moved to the city with his mother to live with his stepfather and stepbrother. He’s terrified that someone will guess the truth he can barely acknowledge about himself. Reza knows he’s gay, but all he knows of gay life are the media’s images of men dying of AIDS.

Judy is an aspiring fashion designer who worships her uncle Stephen, a gay man with AIDS who devotes his time to activism as a member of ACT UP. Judy has never imagined finding romance…until she falls for Reza and they start dating.

Art is Judy’s best friend, their school’s only out and proud teen. He’ll never be who his conservative parents want him to be, so he rebels by documenting the AIDS crisis through his photographs.

As Reza and Art grow closer, Reza struggles to find a way out of his deception that won’t break Judy’s heart–and destroy the most meaningful friendship he’s ever known.

Here’s a little peek at the theme for the July Unplugged Book Box.

Unplugged Book Box Review June 2019 – Final Thoughts

This month’s Unplugged Book Box will be gifted to one of my nieces. The minute I opened it I thought of her. She is going to absolutely love it! The book choice is great this month. Like a Love Story gets great reviews on Goodreads, one reviewer said it was the best book they read all year. In addition to that I am really loving the little goodies we received. The bath products, the tea, the pouch….all things I love! I’m really curious to review an Adult Box and will hopefully be able to share one of those reviews with you soon.
