UrthBox Review January 2017

UrthBox is all about the delicious discovery of healthy new snacks. Every month they will help you discover safe, healthy and natural products from trustworthy brands that you can purchase at your local stores or at the UrthBox Shop. They kindly sent us this box for review.

Wow, it has been a long time since my last UrthBox review. I’ve always kind of liked this box because of the snack box options they have – Classic, Gluten-Free, Vegan and Diet. Today I am reviewing the Classic Box which is the do-it-all box with no dietary restrictions. You can also choose different snack box sizes – mini, small, medium, and large. I am reviewing the Small box which contains 12+ snacks each month for $19.99. You probably know what I am going to say next……I want the large box!

Here’s a look at the items we received in the January Classic box:

Cybele’s Free to Eat Chocolate Chip Cookies

I recently discovered these cookies in another subscription box and am very intrigued. They are free from the top 8 allergens making them a really great snack for lunch boxes. I don’t eat cookies very often, but I’m glad to have a dairy-free option for my pantry.

Foodie Fuel Coconut Vanilla Fuel Snacks

I am SUPER excited about these. This is the kind of snack I like to have in the morning with my coffee. They are made with sunflower seeds, flax seeds, coconut and pumpkin seeds.

Dark Dog Organic Energy Drink

The first organic energy drink with coconut water and a great Piña Colada light flavor. With ingredients high in antioxidants and only 50 calories, it is the most refreshing drink to energize yourself!

This is another item I am excited about. I’m a sucker for anything made with coconut – especially coconut water.

Better Than coffee Energy Bar

A new kind of energy bar. The energy comes from plants not from chemicals or excessive sugar.

This bar has my name written all over it. I get very excited about snacks that are plant-based. I love anything plant-based. It’s probably why I have been able to be Vegan for so long. I truly love it.

Jake Vitamin Candy

Jake vitamincandy® was developed with one goal: to provide the world with a sugar free candy that can be enjoyed every day, with added benefits. By providing impeccable and perfectly formulated flavors and delivering them as sugar free candies, Jake vitamincandy® is sure to please anyone’s taste buds!

This is actually very cool. I try to get as much Vitamin C as I can. I will keep these in my purse.

Dr. Pops Zinc + Vitamin C Lollipops

Dr Pops Zinc + Vitamin C lollipops are a delicious way to supplement a child’s daily Zinc & Vitamin C intake. These all natural tropical fruit flavored lozenges on a stick have no artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, or sugar.

FlyJoy Ancient Grain Energy Bar

A natural take on chocolate and peanut butter. Rich, roasted cacao nibs and peanuts together with a creamy peanut butter, cashew butter and a touch of natural butterscotch flavor.

Wow, they have included some pretty awesome healthy snacks in the January box. I can’t wait to try this one. Peanut butter is my weakness, as are cacao nibs. These are only 185 calories each and contain 20% daily value of fiber.

Mauer Protein Minis

Each mini contains the equivalent of almost 50% more than a standard bar. Indulge in our purest ingredients which are high in protein, non-GMO with no refined sugar.

Dear North Alaska Salmon Bites

These tender Coho Salmon Bites are balanced with naturally sweet raspberries, rhubarb and a touch of spice. Fruity and tangy in one bite.

PopCorners Carnival Kettle Chips

I have received these many times before, but am more than happy to receive them again. These are a great little snack, whether it’s on the go, or an afternoon treat. I really love these.

Jackie’s Cookie Babies

These little babies are gluten-free & vegan! And I am LOVING the container. These are made for road trips. They will fit in the drink holder perfectly.

UrthBox Review January 2017 – Final Thoughts

So here’s the deal. I LOVE this box, and always have, but I know that some of my readers would disagree with me. I’ve heard from a few of you that you’ve had a difficult time with UrthBox customer service, and that is definitely worth mentioning. Customer service is very important to me, and I would never want to recommend a box that has less than perfect customer service. At the same time, I really do love this box. It’s a tough one. I love their box options, and the fact that they cater to vegans. I also think the price point is reasonable, and they included some really awesome snacks this month. Based on the box alone I would have to recommend UrthBox. But I say that with hesitation due to their customer service standards. I would LOVE to hear from any of my readers who have subscribed to UrthBox in the past, or are a current subscriber. Please let us know what your experience has been in the comments below.

Overall, I am very happy with the January box. The product mix is perfect and I have discovered some fun new products.

XOXO

I think it’s important for people to know this company has extremely poor customer service! They are tricky with their auto renewal service. They do not answer calls or emails in a timely manner. When you do speak to someone they are not helpful nor do the pretend to care about their customers.
Very disappointed urthbox! I’ll be looking for another monthly subscription.

    1. Thank you so much for commenting. I know of a few other readers who have reported the same thing.

    1. I’ve heard this from a few people. Thank you for commenting. It’s good for other readers to know.

Urthbox is about as honest and ethical as spammy companies that use malware. Coming from a law enforcement background, they deploy many tactics to continue unexpected charges then refuse to issue refunds for these. I wouldn’t trust them with any of my data after the experience I had with them.

Can you elaborate? I’m tempted to try, just for the trial box they’re offering right now. 12+ snack box for $5.99. I went through the fine print on their website and it appears that so long as I cancel before the 1st of the month after my trial box ships (so if I order now, I can cancel any time between now and May 1st), only problem is making sure I can get into contact with someone within that time frame. When I see deals like that, I usually jump on them and cancel before I’m charged full price for a normal subscription. And as a failsafe I use a separate credit card that I can freeze in case they pull any funny business like ignoring my emails until my subscription rolls over into the next mouth (COUGH COUGH, lootcrate, looking at you…).

Terrible experience with Urthobox.. Tried to resolving with their customer service department and they were unprofessional and did not help at all. I would not recommend Urthobox to anyone!

  5. Anna-Lisa says:

I was excited to try the gluten free box but guess what, 2 out of my 4 boxes had something that may contain wheat. There are things not certified gluten free because the companies say it may contain gluten!! I can’t even get a refund, so now I’m a celiac out of luck .
